Week 4 Featured Artist: Marilyn Minter

Marilyn Minter is a painter/ photographer living in New York City. Her art work deals with high fashion which she claims she knows nothing about. It's almost seems to me that she is portraying the shallowness and the danger of fashion. Some entitle her work as "Damaged Glamour". Recently she made a video called Green Pink Caviar where the model licked bakery products on a glass panel which I think is a bit icky. Then I read her comment about the video. She said the video is to illustrate hunger and insatiability of human nature. After hearing that  the video made more sense to me. Madonna used this video during her song Candy Shop in her Sweet and Sticky tour.

Week 2 Featured Artist: Slyvia Ji

Very much like Anja Van Herle, most of Sylvia Ji's paintings are also portraits of women. What her paintings are different from Anja's are that the women in the paintings look haunting and more complicated than those from Anja's. I saw one of Sylvia Ji's paintings in a magazine about 2 years ago and I was so inspired by her that I used her as my mentor for one of my painting projects. There's something about the women in her paintings that attracts me a lot. Some people say it's morbid but for me it's just so beautiful.
This is the painting that I did for one of my art classes. I used Sylvia Ji as my mentor.
